Article 1111 From the date of the establishment of an adoptive relationship, the rights and obligations of the adoptive parents and the adopted child shall be governed by the provisions of this Code applicable to the relationship between parents and their children, and the rights and obligations of the adopted child and the close relatives of the adoptive parents shall be governed by the provisions of this Code applicable to the relationship between children and the close relatives of their parents.
The rights and obligations of the adopted child, their biological parents, and the close relatives of their biological parents shall be terminated upon the establishment of the adoptive relationship.
Article 1112 An adopted child may take the surname of either adoptive parent or retain their original surname upon consensus through negotiation.
