PRC Arbitration Law: Composition of Arbitral Tribunals - 1

Article 30 An arbitral tribunal may consist of three arbitrators or a sole arbitrator. Where an arbitral tribunal is to consist of three arbitrators, a chief arbitrator shall be appointed.
 
Article 31 Where the parties agree that the arbitral tribunal shall consist of three arbitrators, each party shall select or request the chairman of the arbitration commission to appoint an arbitrator, and the parties shall jointly select or request the chairman of the arbitration commission to appoint a third arbitrator. The third arbitrator shall serve as the chief arbitrator.
 
Where the parties agree that the arbitral tribunal shall consist of a sole arbitrator, the parties shall jointly select or request the chairman of the arbitration commission to appoint a sole arbitrator.
 
Article 32 Where the parties fail to agree on the composition of the arbitral tribunal or select arbitrators or a sole arbitrator within the time period specified in the arbitration rules, the chairman of the arbitration commission shall make an appointment.
